USCIS – Mission Statement (New Policy)

|

En Español

On February 22, 2018, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) was directed to re-write its mission statement. Per the new policy, part of the change included removing the phrase “a nation of immigrants.” The following day I had the honor of attending a Naturalization Ceremony for one of our beloved paralegals. There were new U.S. Citizens from thirty-four different countries in attendance. They were also teary-eyed and obviously proud to be approved for U.S. Citizenship. It was a beautiful ceremony and clear to all in attendance that one of our country’s greatest strengths is that we are indeed a nation of immigrants, made up of people united in their dedication to our hard-fought American values of diversity and inclusivity. Although I am deeply disappointed that under the current administration USCIS would remove “a nation of immigrants” from their mission statement, it doesn’t make that fact any less true.
