Karen is passionate about keeping families together. She has a demonstrated record of service to the immigrant community and is proud to advocate on behalf of her clients. Karen puts her clients first and makes helping them obtain positive outcomes in their cases her top priority.
In 2010 Karen was awarded a prestigious Equal Justice Works Fellowship. Through the Fellowship Karen created the Baker Defense Project of Jacksonville Area Legal Aid which provided free representation to foreign nationals detained at the Baker County Jail in Macclenny, Florida. Karen directed and ran the Baker Defense Project for over three years.
Directing the Baker Defense Project equipped Karen with extensive experience representing clients before the Immigration Courts, Board of Immigration Appeals (BIA), and USCIS. Through the Project Karen successfully represented individuals in asylum, withholding of removal, and Convention Against Torture (CAT) claims, waivers, bond hearings, humanitarian parole requests, deferred action requests, U-visas, T-visas, VAWA self-petitions, and Cancellation of Removal cases. Karen also provided regular “Know Your Rights” presentations to immigrants detained at Baker and advocated for their humane and just treatment.

Karen is committed to providing a high quality representation in all types of immigration cases including representation before any Immigration Court in the U.S., the Board of Immigration Appeals, Federal Courts, and U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS).
Karen is licensed by the Supreme Court of Florida, and has been admitted to practice before the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida and the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit. Karen received her undergraduate degree from the University of Colorado at Boulder, and her Doctor of Jurisprudence from Florida Coastal School of Law.
Karen is an active member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA), and currently serves as the Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) Enforcement and Removal Operations liaison for the Central Florida Chapter of AILA. Karen is a member of the National Immigration Project of the National Lawyers Guild and also serves on the state and local board for the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Florida.
